There is no party on earth more TURNT UP than the BET Awards! (As I’m typing this blog entry, my body is still aching, recovering from all the fun I’ve had last night.)
I remember when the very first BET Awards made its debut back in 2001, I was lying on my couch at home with two bowls of popcorn, shouting at my TV. The ladies of Destiny’s Child opened the show and my screen exploded in bedazzled bootylicious pink confetti. In 2003, I pulled a Tom Cruise a-la Oprah’s show and jumped up and down when the late great Michael Jackson battled James Brown in a dance off! Fast forward a few years later, when Chris Brown was begging for public forgiveness, he chose the BET Awards stage as the start of his redemption tour and paid tribute to MJ…. and yes, it worked on me.
As a child who grew up watching the BET Awards, I never thought one day I would be able to host from the red carpet and rub shoulders with all the stars. Yes, the Oscars and the Grammys are prestigious and fun, but there’s something different about the BET Awards. It celebrates diversity and all the fresh artists BEFORE they make it on to the mainstream.
My team absolutely shut it down for me in coming up with the concept, and let’s just say we chose a look that was fresh, vibrant, sexy, and, most importantly, can stand through the 100+ degree weather on a hot Sunday afternoon for more than 4 hours!
I wore a beautiful fuchsia mini dress by my friend Michael Costello. My makeup artist friend Marilyn gave me a soft smokey eye, nude lips, dewy skin, and my hairstylist Tiffany turned my medium length hair into tousled, beachy strands!
Got to see Big Tigger and snap a selfie…
Interviewed Machine Gun Kelly, aka MGK…. he gushed about Amber and looked clearly confused at my sweaty, blurry phone!
Oh… watch me, watch me! SILENTO!
It’s the only place in the world where we can see Janet Jackson and Fetty Wap in the same building… and I caught Brandy throwing shade on the red rug!
Peace out BET… Until next year! Check back for exclusive interviews on PopStop TV Show, Youtube.com/PopStopTV, and my behind the scenes video log coming this week!0
