XiXi Presents: A Busybee’s Thanksgiving Survival Guide! Thursday 24 November, 2011

Hey friends!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Whether you’re getting your turkey eating game face on or clipping coupons for midnight, don’t forget it’s the day to hang out with the ones you love, reflect, and give back!

When I was young, I absolutely LOVED turkey day. Not only would my family have these huge neighborhood pot locks but it was a family tradition to line up at Best Buy during the wee hours of dawn, just for those cool free AOL Instant Messaging CD’s and those AWESOME $10 after rebate Carmen Sandiego computer games. Even though most of those rebates wouldn’t come at all (or erm, got “lost in the mail”), Thanksgiving has always been that special holiday, full of hope, anticipation, and memorable moments!

As I got older, work and life got way busier. All of a sudden, it’s so difficult to put a halt on your manic schedule and just chill with your good old friends! Everyone is at a different time zone and has his/her own agendas. But let’s get real – Thanksgiving weekend is the PERFECT time to do so for all you worker bees! There will always be another day of work, another email to reply to, and another business deal to chase! And you know (deep down inside) that taking a little weekend off, shutting down your electronics will not only rejuvenate your spirit but also give you that necessary rest you need before jump starting your business again.

Here are my top 5 tips dedicated to all my young entrepreneur friends for surviving Thanksgiving this year:

1) Don’t bring your laptop, iPad, or calendar to Thanksgiving parties! This is a time to soak in the holiday spirit and reconnect with your loved ones again! Commit to spending time with them and the only reason why you should check your Twitter is to tweet about the amazing time you’re having.

2) Reflect on the things you’re thankful for! From your health to your new toy, we are so blessed! Counting your blessings will not only help you put everything in perspective but you’ll also attract more!

3) EAT THAT TURKEY AND YAM! It’s totally OK to indulge today. The gym will open tomorrow but you can bet those leftovers won’t be there next week!

4) Start your Christmas shopping early. Black Friday is the perfect opportunity to get great deals on holiday gifts for family members, friends, and business acquaintances. Don’t be that person who’s scrambling for left over dress size! You have to do it anyway, so why not get the crème of the crop?

5) Vegetate on the couch for as long as you desire… why not?! Today is the day for total relaxation! Don’t let the work blues get you. This is YOUR day so own it, live it, and enjoy it with the ones you love!

I realized that the best part of Thanksgiving is not to receive, but to EMPOWER others and give back! This year, I’m thankful for my amazing family, friends, health, career, all the celebrities I’ve interviewed, and most importantly – YOU!

I’d like to thank YOU for being a part of my life and teaching me a thing or two about this crazy journey! I hope to see you back from the holidays happier, more successful, and chubbier!

XoXo,
